Some Great British Quotations - and Some Damn Lies

Let’s have a look at “English as she is spoke,” which was the title of a Portuguese-English conversation guidebook by Andrew White Tuer, (1838-1882). A great deal of what is truly bizarre about Britain can be found in quotations, both humorous and erudite, by Brits of note. Even Brits of no note whatsoever say some pretty astonishing things. Foreigners also like to put forward their two ha’porth, and we let them – sometimes.
